ERJ in Press
Introduction
The European Respiratory Society is pleased to introduce ERJ in Press, a new feature that will enable the scientific community to read the latest advances at the earliest possible time. ERJ in Press publishes in manuscript format peer-reviewed and accepted papers that will be subsequently edited and published in the regular print and online version of ERJ.
Details
Accepted manuscripts will be posted to ERJ in Press in batches, generally once a fortnight, for early publication in unedited form.
ERJ in Press articles are searchable in Medline and citable. Publication information, including the date and digital object identifier (DOI), appears on the PDF, the abstract, and the search result citation listing, as shown in the example below:
Published online before print December 5, 2005 Eur Respir J 2005, doi:10.1183/09031936.05.00031905
Once a paper is published under ERJ in Press (and before it is published in its final form), it should be cited in other articles as follows:
C. Janson, et al., Changes in the use anti-asthmatic medication in an international cohort
Eur Respir J Published ahead of print December 5, 2005, 10.1183/09031936.05.00031905
An ERJ in Press article subsequently goes through the normal production process, which includes copyediting, typesetting, and proofreading. The edited paper is then published in its final form in a regular print and online issue of ERJ, usually approximately 3 months later. At this time, the ERJ in Press version is no longer featured on the journal Web site, but it remains accessible through links in the final version of the online article (it is stored in an accessible, permanent archive).
To establish the connection between the ERJ in Press manuscript and its final version in the regular print and online issue of ERJ you will find a link to earlier versions of this article in the right hand navigation bar.
The final version of the paper will have the same DOI (digital object identifier) as the ERJ in Press version; thus, both versions will be searchable using the same DOI. A DOI is a globally unique and persistent label for an instance of intellectual property. The Digital Object Identifier System is supported by the International DOI Foundation, with information available at http://www.doi.org.
Disclaimer
ERJ in Press manuscripts have undergone the complete peer-review process. None of the additional editorial preparation, which includes copyediting, typesetting, and proofreading, has been performed. Therefore, there may be errors in articles published under ERJ in Press that will be corrected in the final print and online versions of the Journal. Any use of these articles is subject to the express understanding that the papers have not yet gone through the full quality control process prior to express publication.
